I have some metal clad sockets near my ramps in an area that is under cover but open fronted. Metal clads do eventually start to rust so I decided to get some weathproof ones.
I got an RCD protected one for when I running extensions but was looking for one with USB sockets so I can pop my phone/torches on charge. They do exist but they aren't that common.
It turns out there is an easy solution.
When you look inside one of these it is quite simply a normal 2G socket faceplate in an IP rated enclosure.
The 800 series face plates are exactly the same profile and you only need to take two screws out and slacken the other two to swap them, there are a couple of the plastic plugs for the normal faceplate holes that need to be transfered but that is it.
So now I have an IP66 double socket with USB, it also means if you have newer stuff you could also fit a socket with USB C instead as they do a USB C in the 800 Series
Obviously I do have a redundant double socket faceplate too.
