Hi guys,

I recently got an inverter fusion from weldequip (Fantastic service and price!!).

The machine is fantastic and makes for learning to weld with very easy.

I've laid down quick a few beads on a flat piece of 6mm stainless and have had very good results.

Welding 1.5mm 304 tubing was a bit more tricky but I think I'm starting to get the hang of it.

Just a few questions.

I seem to be going through my bottle of argon pretty quickly. I'm not sure what setting to have.. I guess it just comes with trial and error?

Also I'm finding it extremely difficult trying to do a fillet weld. It just seems to ball up and not penetrate very well.

what flow rate are you running on the argon..If you havent got one your want a flow meter??

Fillets are harder often you have to use the filler as a bridge to get the pool going, more amps will be needed.

Tig is gas hungry any way, you should be looking at 14lpm flow rate but i can easy get away with 10lpm normally, but it does depend on what im doing

You've got the pre-flow and post-flow of gas to protect the tungston too. I was surprised at just how much gas the TIG used - mine has eaten most of a size Y bottle through occasional use, though I suppose that's over a year so not so shocking.

I need to have another look at the measurements on the gas regulator that comes with it. I've got it set between 20-40 (something). I'll double check when I get a chance to go outside.

Yes I heard it's about 1 sec for every 10amps for the postflow. I'm also not sure how much I can stick the tungsten out.

I also see why having a foot pedal would make life so much easier! Having just the button on the torch is quite awkward.

foot pedal is great for sheet work, can fade the power on and fade it off so to speak so you dont burn off the corners. The other thing with a foot pedal is you can blast start it, set you max power to say 50 amps when you only really want 30, floor it at the start then back off quick, so you get a quick weld pool , not good practice but if your in a hurry

I dont normaly sheild with much more than 8lpm a bit more on DC, ally I use a gas lens and floading the plate with too much gas isnt just a waste but will effect the weld...

That said it doesnt take me many hours to get through a full bottle of gas with the tig, the pre and post flows eat it away.. that said the mig pre and post flows as well so that buggers just as hungry

Yeah I think I'm gonna go through this 'X' size bottle pretty quickly. It took me 4 months to get through one with my mig... I think I'll last about a month at this rate. Gonna turn the gas right down and see what happens.

Ok on the regulator it has either scfh or lpm. I've been using the scfh reading at about 40. Is that too much?

40 cfh is cubic feet an hour, let me do a quick imperial to metric conversion.
1 cubic foot is equal to 6.25 gallons
there is 4.55 ltrs to a gallon, so one cubic ft is equal to about 28.5 ltrs
28.5 x 40 cubic ft is 1140 ltrs an hour divid by 60 to give ltrs per min and we have 19lpm, twice as much as it should be. reset to 20scfh. and someone check me maths

Wow thanks dude.. hmmm... lucky I checked with you guys first or I would have completely cleaned out my tank twice as fast!!
