Internet /wifi outside ?

Ok I'm definatly not tech savvy , but I live in a house with 2' thick walls and the wifi has no signal outside ,
The router has 4 LAN ports on it is it a case of plugging in a cat 5 cable into this and running this cable to an external aerial ??
I'm fairly clueless about this but any advice most welcome

Yep ... you will also need power unless you have poe

POE is Power over Ethernet, so the device draws power through the ethernet cable and not a local PSU. What you want is a Wireless access point to plug into your network cable taken from your routers LAN port to give you WiFi outside.

One of Ed’s mates fitted a WiFi gadget on the outside of my barn and it’s good enough to run everything in the office and around the yard to about 60mts.

Ok so the 'wireless access point ' is what I would call the aerial

So get cable with plugs either end run cable up to loft drill hole to outside fit external wireless access point (with Poe )
That sounds ideal Bob exactly what I need

Be aware that not all routers have POE output: so you may need a power supply for the access point, anyway.

I am also a fan - their interfaces are quite good.

My " BT hub thingy" is not POE.

Be aware, the “P” part of poe is usually provided by the router, which of course most regular routers/switches don’t support :-) so you can get a “poe” injector - basically an adapter for the inside end of the cable which has a psu and “injects” power into the Ethernet cable.

Just as an alternative...

I *know* one can get "WiFi" aerials on a cable, because I have one in my Arduino stuff.

Can you get a longer extension cable that just screws onto the aerial output of the router and run the aerial outside?

You might need a "multi aerial" router? (I have a nighthawk 9000 which has three aerials)

BTW, Poe injectors are available on Amazon for about £10 ish, and a 5 port poe switch by tplink is about £30.
