There's just no need, as above.

Oddly enough that's just my view of Windows, for most people, there's just no need.

Admittedly, you tend to swap one set of problems for another set, 3D graphics drivers for example, but at least the problems haven't been deliberately designed in. With Windows you rapidly find yourself in the black hat or grey hat world.

Don't visit dodge sites like Shox says, and don't open suspect email attachments. Been working on the net every day since 1994 and had one virus in all that time, thats with Windows.
Basic AV + basic firewall + little awareness is all you need.

There were problems a few weeks ago with the volkszone forums (and some others*) when a browser hijacker virus infected some google ads and started sending forum users to a download site to fix it. Quite a few members had quite a job to remove it and the forum was taken down and ads removed until it was sorted.

*others included the BBC news site

You're right, bigbad. I work part-time in IT and find myself cleaning this sort of crap off Windows computers almost every week now.

Sometimes it's a relief to get back home to Linux!
