ukracer are you using virgins firewall at all or are you using your own

on another note have you blocked any pop ups via your firewall settings some firewalls do block pop ups which servers use

the strange thing is your phone is getting through via wireless

is it through virgins wireless connection or through data connection

if virgins wireless connection or even wired to your phone does it let you through

have you tried dmz direct to the net not through virgins firewall system ?

dmz is within your modem settings on your router

Is dmx modem mode?

If so i have not tried this yet but will do tommorow.

Is it WHM that you cant access or the entire server? If you can see websites on the server but not WHM or cPanel then it could be linked to the non standard ports that WHM and cPanel use.

Good question and i dont know. But.....this should apply via vodafone and O2 plus virgin via a VPN. And virgin have confirmed my IP is being blocked not a port issue. If it were a port issue i would not be able to gethrough at all.

then click dmz select your pc's ip address the one in use by typing out the numbers in the box's and ok

that bypasses the modems firewall and also any problems via that modem

its just a direct connection to the internet but its best to have a good firewall on your own pc in the first place

I do have a firewall and its dmz via this pc never had any problems and i used torrents and emule programs

if no difference after that then your ip address is fully blocked as its been black listed ive come across it before
i did get blueyonder to change my ip address once never had it by virgin but i know ip address are changed every restart or power outage

Other way round. An IP has many ports. So if ports are being blocked then you could access some services on an IP and not others. If an IP is being blocked then you wouldn't be able to access any services.

Anyway, I only mentioned because I remember accessing cPanel and WHM often caused problems on corporate networks which had tight firewalls and it was due to the cpanel system using non standard ports.

Personally, I would do some diagnosis, see if I could ping the IP, then see if I could ping other IPs in the same block, then see if I can ping if I use a different IP (i.e. from a different location, or via VPN or web tool). The results should tell you if it's a problem specific to you. Try pinging from your router (assuming your router is an business router and has such a feature). Or from another workstation. This would eliminate possibility of issue being with your computer. If all this identifies that your IP is being blocked (and personally I would not trust the diagnosis of the level 1 support worker at Virgin, I would confirm it for myself), then I would show the result to the hosting company and ask them to check the logs on their routers. That would identify if the problem is on their network or firewalls, or on the server itself. All that should narrow down where the problem is and then you start checking possibilities there.

Update ::::

Spoken to virgin level 2 tech support as my mate who would know all about this is at the motorhome and caravan show today. Lol

Anyway apparently when asked what my IP address was i told him.
He then told me it wasnt.....so i went alo g with him and typed whats my ip into google.....guess what it returned the same ip .

So he then said ah thats your internet IP not your gateway ip........at that stage he has beaten me as my knowledge does not extend that deep into networking (i see it as a black art)

I am going to try it in modem mode shortly....

Another update...lol

I am lucky to have a brand new install on a pc close to the router. So....i put the hub in modem mode and found it worked. No longer blocked. I put it back in router mode and then saw my TRUE IP address being broadcast. (Why virgin could not have told me the address i dont know)

SO armed with that i checked blacklists and boom.......its on 3 lists.

Now to say i am +×÷=% is an understatement.
It goes as low as a credit reference agency IMHO
Why some one is allowed to add you IP to a list , when its nothing to do with them is beyond me. Its the same as a credit ref agency selling details about my spending and financial history......


But anyway despite all of that the IP Address my Pc in the backroom is returning is NOT the same as the router is displaying.
I am now at a loss as to why i have differing IP addresses depending on which machine i use. I thought it might be because my backroom PC is off a linksys router hard wired....but no its the same IP showing when its linked direct via wifi to the super hub 2.

As i am on 3 black lists.......i cant believe host gator have not checked this..

I have already considered moving Hosting companies........looks like its about time i looked around.

hes been ip black listed as a bad ip its very hard to get rid of it as isp's dont like giving you a new isp to your address

however you can be stuck with someone elses bad ip address on a reboot / power outage has happened to me and a few others on virgin media and blueyonder on cable forum site

I've been using Nord, is you sign up for three years then it costs £1.8 a month or something like that. It's performance is good. They are Panama based so you get privacy.

Used to run my own VPN servers, but that was when I had my own datacentre network and admins. Now I'm freelance so a bought VPN is better. Of course I only use it for legit reasons like testing access to systems from multiple locations.

I just noticed that my anti-virus subscription includes a VPN option, maybe yours does too? That way you have both in one and don't need to have two clients installed.
