Interesting documentaries?

Two questions really:

Can anyone recommend any interesting documentaries? Of any topic, just fancy watching some documentaries.

Can anyone recommend any slow paced interesting videos to show to a 3 yr old? We limit screen time but sometimes I show our kid underwater welding videos on YouTube. Ideally of people making/doing something, without lots of fast edits.

Stanley hooker?

Aside, it’s not a docu but there’s a show on Netflix where they essentially turn kids drawings into reality with a bit of engineering. Can’t for the life of me remember what it’s called but I’ll have a dig

A brilliant man, responsible for the merlin being the power plant it was, and later work on turbines. His book is equally impressive

Julius summer Miller does some very interesting short lectures aimed at all ages. They're very old scratchy videos but enjoyable

Veratasium: excellent science and physics documentaries

Scarf and Goggles: interesting videos on land and water speed record history ( Donald Campbell, Richard Noble etc)

As for your three year old, my little boy used to love watching diggers when he was about that age. There are a lot of digger videos for kids on YouTube, which aren’t especially educational but at that age just watching stuff move soil about will learn him something.

heres a paragliding one for anybody not just pilots
beautifully filmed with some great dialogue

the film is on netflix
these boys go cross country flying in the high mountains, taking their bivvy gear with them and almost no chance of being rescued.

I've recorded that, but not watched it yet.

Depending on the subject matter desired, there's a few interesting documentaries I've enjoyed enough to keep them on my recorder in case I want to watch them again:

First broadcast in the 1980s, this look at the Le Mans 24-hour race was somehow more interesting than I expected.

An inside look at the famous Le Mans endurance event. Jack Pizzey follows the fortunes of the drivers dedicated to winning what many regard as the greatest road race in the world.

This documentary pops up on one of the Freeview channels from time to time, probably Sky Arts, it's a 2-part one about Laurel Canyon, a popular place in the US for musicians to live and gather in the sixties. Music is all a bit early for my interest, but I find that a sign of a good documentary is when it's interesting despite me not being that bothered about the detail of the content.

Finally (for now) this one about a wildfire in California in 2018 was strangely captivating and very well shot. It comes up on BBC2 (I was sure it was BBC4, but the link says not) from time to time.
