Insuring young drivers

used to have any driver insurance on my work vans, but the prices got silly - too many drunk drivers etc.. using it so they didn't have to be named on the polocy

I run a fleetplan for the trucks and the smaller vans /4x4`s , they come out at about £1500 a year, that`s not bad when you consider that the only stipulation is to hold a current UK driving licence. Some insurance companies will accept a letter from a fleetplan driver with a clean record towards discount or an equivelant of NCD. One of our lads recently used a letter written by our broker for this when he got his own car.

If caught the named driver, as well as the parent get prosecuted, for no insurance as policy isn't honoured by companies and both parties get points on licence. New drivers get an automatic ban, have to take an extended test after ban and will have difficulty getting insurance in the future with having a record for fraud.

And there in lies the problem. Everyone wants their dream car. Instead of building up NCB with cars of lesser value and lower group status.

He started off looking at what he wanted not what was sensible. Soon saw that what he wanted wasn't an option, looking at the sensible options now. Still a lot of money to insure these cars.

the ones I've looked at wouldn't protect no claims bonus, and if one van had an accident you lost the NCB on all of them.... is it the same for you ?

that's the only reason I have individual policies, the NCB on all of them added up is worth a fair bit

Trick is to buy something with 5 doors and preferably not a hatchback as this keeps the costs down as the not so typical first car to have.
Also stay away from German brands as they tend to be costlier than say a Toyota or Peugeot ect...
Family member has just psst his test at 18 and bought a small engined 4 door astra as it was hundreds cheaper than anything else he looked at.
Also once they've lasted a couple of years then take another beating and go for a performance car as insurance also goes on the past vehicles you've insuranced, if you've had a scooby or an astra vxr without bumping it then it goes in your favour as a trusted driver.
I got a scooby in my early 20's and this helped me no end in bringing down my insurance in the last 10 years.

I dont think we have ever had a year where one of our trucks has not had a scrape or two so never really had the chance to accumulate a NCB.

Change your address would be the easiest way to bring the price down. My grand daughter was paying around £1000 on her Ka where she lived in Derbyshire. She got a job and moved to Birkenhead and now pays double.

No - I was trying to say it's worthwhile contacting insurance companies directly rather than relying on comparison websites.

I've just been to Tibby on my pushbike, about 4 miles each way. I called at the Co-op for a few bags of tea. My dad was born at Rock Ferry.

Its a 52 plate Diesel Polo, I have looked at swapping it for a Yaris as its a low insurance group but its the same cost.
Cheapest Quote is £3600 with a box and Curfews no driving between 23.00-05.00.
Any thoughts on these that give you a new car with insurance for £X a month?

Most don't do under 21 or even 25 with the Free insurance.....

obviously depends on the specific policies but we had a transit on a company policy which said any driver.

I checked with the broker and they said that I was correct in that there were no age restrictions so my boys learnt to drive in the transit and used it for some time after passing their tests

AND if you drive a works vehicle and get hit by some one it counts against you until you get the all clear of a no fault accident.......they will charge you the extra and refund though.
