ins and outs of trailer liscence

does anyone no ins and outs of the b and e test u have to take to use a trailer??

Pretty much based on and similar to an lgv test ,i believe which i have done . Had grandfather* rights for the b &e trailer bit .

* not old enuff to be a proper grandfather tho

well i no i have got to take one because i fall into the bracket that has to take one! was just curious to no if anyone has done one and what was it like and how difficult???!! to be honest been driving large tractors and trailers for years and a truck and trailer but i got job coming off that needs to see my licence, so no realize i need to do this test.

If you have a higher category then its not an issue. It's based on the HGV test and is taken at the centres that do the HGV test. I plan to do mine next year as I have need to do mine (trying to convince work to pay for it) its not quite as black and white as many of the websites offering training etc would like you to believe. You can tow a trailer over 750kg providing the weight of the trailer is within the capacity of the tow vehicle and the total weight (as measured as VOSA have issued clarification) is less that 3500kg

unless your towing big stuff that should be fine for a standard B license

i got my tractor licence when was 16 and been hauling 14 tonne loads behind it ever since but i still got todo a test for a car and trailer!! but the trailer is 20 foot and 3and half tonne so guess it will be like driving tractor and trailer lol

Sorry to butt in to this thread... reading this made me chuckle as i had exactly the same thing myself... Used to drive tractors with 40' long trailers and like you, 5t trailers too and yet to pull my 3.5t 16' x 7.7' bed ifor williams flat bed i had to do the b&e test a couple of years ago. One 4 hour lesson then went in for my test, passed first time with only 1 minor (and i knew exactly when went wrong and i had got it!). Its not difficult, but makes me laugh because i think i used the instructors car with say a 6x4 trailer and then came home and hitched up my trailer on the back of my discovery and collected a car for a friend!!!
