Inlet (ball?) valve for mains filled cold tank .

Is there a particular specification for the mains fill valve for the cold tank . The present one is of the “ vertical” pattern as in a loo cistern, and has a habit of hanging up and the tank runs dry so I’m going to replace it. Should it be a conventional ball ball valve? What should I ask for?

Should be a part 2 float valve, with the outlet coming off the top of the valve and a plastic spout directing it into the tank.

I'd be trying sticking a weight on the ball (but I'm cheap ) ...some of the plastic ones are just too light weight I think.....sometimes gravity needs a helping hand.

whilst the plastic ones do stick with age the older type ball cock didnt

its very hard to adapt to the old type of ball cock but it can be done from a bottom feed as they are normally a side feed

the bottom feed do exist but are hard to find

its your water tank size thats the issue and that brass bar will allow some bending
