Inkscape Gurus!!

Not sure where to put this as we dont have a CAD / Imaging section but that is an increasing part of this metalworking lark.

So I use Inkscape a lot and this is a very basic task which has got me stumped and its irritating me! I am trying to take a circle and remove the rectangle, leaving the remainder of the circle, top and bottom.

So we start with this:

Then select both items, Path > Difference

We are left with:

Any ideas why its distorting please?! Its driving me nuts. I have obviously pushed a button somewhere and changed a setting I think.

I can't help you sorry I uninstalled inkscape because it was too complicated for me. I went back to using an older verion of Serif Drawplus.

I only really edit PDFs with inkscape now. I tend to use illustrator if I have to
draw something. But that is simple enough to do. I have just done it and forgoten what I did;-)

Look at the menus, you want a menu with little pics showing bits missing.
You probably used it?

I selected both items and went for differences.

Works OK for me - though I can't be called a guru - I use openscad Have you tried starting with a new document and seeeing if it makes any difference ?

Cheers guys! You’ve both done what I’ve been trying to do. It’s something I’ve done many times before so it’s an obvious mistake that I’m just not seeing.

I have no idea! I have tried a new document. Tried restarting Inkscape and then restarting the Mac. There must be a setting I am just not seeing. I will find it........

I've spent an hour clicking and selectimg everything to try and replicate your issue, can't make it do it though, so really I'm no help.

It might be a bug in inkscape?

Hadn't thought of that I might try a re install.

Thank you. I've spent at least twice that trying to make it not do it!!!
