ingenious workshop solutions?

Will keep am eye on this. Just bought a flat which has a 7x8ft brick built store which I intend on using as a man cave. Need some ingenious ideas to maximise space!

comfortable chair ,wooden crate for beer with tv on top .lump of wood and a hammer.. Sit down watch tv with beer and clout wood with hammer to indicate work being done.

I acquired a couple of clamps awhile back which had swivel attachments. One day I had a brainstorm while measuring a part, and drilled & tapped one of my spare Micrometers to mount onto one of the clamps. Although I have a conventional Mic stand at the bench, this turned out to be a great convenience when placed at the end of my mill.

Very heavyweight floor shelf. Tiny castors cost pennies and the more the merrier. The sides of the cabinet capture the movement to keep it straight. Opens into a walkway where "nothing" should ever be blocking it.

Clearly this is where the plan falls down...

Here is a good solution for stopping draft from the gap above a roll-up-door. Measure and cut a wood batten the width of the door, then attach (rubber backed) carpet to the batten, and screw the batten to the garage door header at the opening with the rubber side down. Gravity will keep the carpet in contact with the door throughout its up and down cycles and significantly reduce draft. Here's a rough sketch and a couple of photos which should be self explanatory.

Good Idea.

Any tips for the sides?

I fitted brush strip about 8yrs ago. Only to the inside, this stopped almost all of the drafts. Really need to do the same with the outside. Then it would be 100% draft proof. I'll find the suppliers details and post up

I remember seeing that and thinking, "on my workshop floor there would only be 3 wheels in contact at any one time...."

I can imagine trying to negotiate those casters across my workshop floor after a good lunch.

Tough crowd tonight. Have to say my workshop floor is more "Himalaya" than "snooker table". So long as one or more castors are touching the floor (!) it will glide in and out very easily considering there's probably 30-40 kg of offcuts in there....

I am still trying to find the perfect solution(s). Shadow board is good for frequently used tools. As per previously commented on the light weight shelving is so-so and still needs boxes of some description. Found it exacerbates more than helps... eg. stuff falling down behind it. No backs or sides. Just too much stuff, I can barely move for it.
I have not got flat, accessible walls to mount linbins. Very uneven stone walls and obstructed with machinery.

...but again they need wall space which I don't have. A freestanding unit like a point-of-sale display maybe? Plus might damage tool contact body bit?
A lot of the images on the web show sparsely filled workshops like 'Show Homes', with a fraction of the stuff I've got. I need a 2nd hand Tardis. Or a very big shoehorn.
Pigeon hole storage would be best bet. Still looking for 2nd hand one.

Well thanks to Screwdrivers post I decided to build the same for under my workbench to use the space better than just shoving stuff under it, wheeled box is roughly 1400x550mm, not sure of the weight in it but it's no lightweight!

this is the best solution i could think of for storing different short lengths of stock where you can still see them , its about 2ft square and easy to move about with a pallet truck
