I saw a £7.50 bottle of olive oil in Aldi the other day and read an article recently that it’s the most stolen item in Spanish shops now.

Isn’t that more related to the previous poor harvest?

Not sure, but we spend a lot of time in Spain and I can tell you it’s got more expensive over that last few years, as opposed to one year where the harvest wasn’t great. That sort of suggests it’s not related to one harvest, well in my tiny mind anyway.

There’s a company selling Italian olive oil at over 30 quid a litre now. Some claim of the ground being volcanic and somehow making it a miracle cure for many evils. We all know olive oil is good for you, I drink a bit every day to try and lubricate my knackered knees, but over 30 quid a litre? I object to the price of the stuff in the UK when compared to Spain, but there’s no way I would pay for this stuff.

Brexit had it's role for sure, and Europe too has to pay for that.
Every time I purchase something from the UK shipped to Italy I pay more on taxes than on the item itself.

That's lucky...most of Europe won't ship to the UK anymore.

We only use Italian and Greek olive oils for stuff like salads....yea they aren't cheap. Lidl are doing a greek olive oil at the moment (in a lovely bottle too)....but they don't always have it in. Think it's £6 for 500ml which isn't too bad for a nice oil.

A website called shadow stats publish the inflation calculated in the same way as it was calculated in 1980. It's been running 8% per year since then. Inflation is (or at least was) defined as inflation in the money supply (printing money). For the last 40 years it has been masked by the deflation caused by China making stuff cheaply so has resulted in de-industrialisation more than a rise in prices.

The money printing goes on but China and the rest are improving their own standards of living so their prices aren't going down any more. I think that's what we are seeing as much as the result of the huge money printing over the last few years. Those who want the old system to continue seem very keen on starting WW3.

Annoys the heck out of me that stuff keeps going up while I find it more difficult to make any money by doing actual work.

I used probably 100 48mm saddle clamps when building my carport and paid under £1 each (more like 60p + vat). Now intend extending carport so am a little shocked that the clamps will be £2.50+ each
