I'm on the look out for an industrial punch capable of punching 20mm holes in 1 inch thick steel does anyone know of any good brands to look for? Are the ironworkers capable machines for this?
general rule of thumb is that the hole you’re punching should be same diameter as the material thickness, at minimum.
20mm holes in 25mm plate is a drilling or burning job.
Possibly even more than 70 tonne as our kingsland is 60.It is, but offset the cost of drilling against a few punch sets, if theres loads of holes it's far cheaper to by a couple of punches.
I'd happily do 14 through 15, 18 through 20, 22 through 25, but not on smaller punches. Back down to diameterx1.5 for max thickness.
Youd be looking at around a minimum of a 70ton machine to do that.
