Not too far from the M1
Very good value
Can spend hours there. The underground tour should not be missed - give yourself extra time for it

Kelham lsland in Sheffield is another place worth visiting all about Sheffields Industrial History, including the "The River Don Engine" a 12000 hp steam engine used for rolling armour plate during both World Wars, usually in steam and running about 2.00pm on a Sunday.

Aldridge Transport museum. Buses, trucks and mainly commercial vehicles, they even have a 6 wheel Hustler

Not sure if its been covered, crossness engines, big old steam engines that used to run crossness sewage station in thamesmead/belvedere

They run open days where they start up the old engine, id like to go myself but havent found the time the engine is amazingly huge and a work of art id say

A single flywheel is 52 tons im unaware of the collective weight but it was a serious bit of engineering especially as it still runs

The Lancashire mining museum at Astley Green has the only surviving headgear in Lancashire. The winding engine is run on compressed air nowadays and is very impressive. Also has Fred Dibnahs replica headgear now. And it is all FREE to visit.
