Induction hob anyone?

Our Neff (Naff...) induction hob is on the blink.

It will happily deal with one pan on some of the magnetic plates, but not on others. If I try to put 2 pans on together, all the individual ring icons flash together, whether there is anything on them or not.



Now this thing ain't cheap to replace (or repair for that matter) but before I call the service 'engineer' in to give me the bad news, has anyone any experience of successfully fixing these things?

It's model model number T4883 by the way & out of warranty.

Can't help on the Neff, but we have a Whirlpool ACM847ba - rated number two by Which (ironically, #1 is a Neff at twice the price).

It's £279 and is the best cooking tool we've ever bought. If you can't fix the Neff I'd heartily recommend looking at the Whirlpool.

We have a different model Neff, and one side (pair of) rings gave up the ghost.
Advice from supplier was - take out our breakdown insurance, wait a week then claim! It was out of warranty and about 3 years old. The insurer would cover up to 5 years I think from memory. Premium was less than £100. I did not renew after the one year I bought.
Repair was very easy - technician just replaced the module. I could have done it easily, problem was I could not find a supplier for the parts.

Same happened on a De Dietric before I put my knee through the glass on Christmas Eve tiling, mad panic.

Best advice take out the insurance.

Still weighing up the options including new replacement at £650

It's amazing what you can manage to cook on 1 ring and a microwave.....

Be personally tempted to buy cheap and see how long it lasts before it goes bang...
That or go Bosch / Belling

We got our Neff induction hob for £130 on clearance at Curry's 6 years ago. It's been great, but I would get a cheaper brand if I was replacing it as I wouldn't be prepared to spend £600 plus on a hob. John Lewis often do 2 year warranty on appliances and will usually price match.

I have a cheap beaumatic one it perfoms well and I am a chef, I have heard the stories about them thats why i went cheap if it brakes ill replace it, I have ****** around replacing many a element in the halogen ones before now sometimes it works out cheaper if u factor in time to buy new

Well, after over 2 months I thought I'd update the situation.

After trawling the Internet and speaking to local appliance repairers, I stumble across British Gas. For a one off payment of £99 and £2.35 a month they'll cover it for 12 months, including fixing the existing fault.

So after a couple of false starts (missed appointment, parts not in stock etc) 2 guys turned up today - one an appliance engineer and the other a sparks. Took them 3.5 hours and £645 worth of parts to fix it. This included removing the oven to gain access underneath the hob and doing a full function check + refit.

The Sparks even corrected a reverse polarity on one of of the wall sockets in the kitchen and also updated some bits in the fuse box. Top blokes.

Check it out for all domestic appliances it's an absolute no brainier.

some one fitted the socket and didn't look to see which was live and neutral specially when replacing one .there not all the same way round conections

yea but amateurs do some funny things even so called professionals. the trouble is they don't test the circuits when they do it. I check every socket I fit no matter what

Check out the reviews of the Whirlpool. I would a) never have anything other than an induction in the future and b) find it hard to look beyond the Whirlpool. Even if you threw it away every couple of years it still works out at excellent value for money!

Cons: The large ring only works if the pot fits the size of the ring. I tried using a slightly smaller frying pan on the larger ring, but it didn't work. "

BUT never the less when I need a new one it looks good.
