That could be the pressure at which it reacts with Copper and instantly explodesI always thought 15psi was the max safe pressure.

Copper Acetylide I think its called.......Im the same I cant really rememberFrom what I understand, the reaction with copper forms some kind of crystal, which itself is explosively unstable. I think silver reacts the same. Don't quote me on it, its just what I have dragged from the dark corners of my memory and its a bit dusty in there. The 15psi thng, I thought was to never set the regulator anywhere above that![]()
You seem to be right. I was sure I'd read, not thaat long ago, that 8 was the safe working limit. Oh wellI always thought 15psi was the max safe pressure.
I seem to remember that the reason we have this new plant is cause the old one had a "bit of a fire"Thats right

Really........ingeniousI have heard of lads fishing, well poaching, using calcium carbide. They would put it, so i am told in something like a tobacco tin with a hole punched in it, then chuck it in where they knew fish were in the lake, pond or river, it would sink to the bottom and fill with water, giving off acetylene gas and when it reached the right pressure it would explode, stunning the fish, which floated convieniently to the surface.
i know where there is alarge tin of carbide
