Don't do this, works for a while, but you end up with sticky hardening grease.

Ask me how I know.. (Don't).

I assume you mean grease, or are you in an earth mound?

Yes the motor has a circular flange which slides in to the tube & was kept in place with 3 m8( I think) bolts through the tube into the motor flange.
Sorry if that wasn't what you meant.

I see, yes I know what you mean, the flange is inside the tube? Towards the middle as most motors are about a meter long?

Yeah the motor is supported with 2 flanges really, one inner as you say around a metre in the tube & the outer one which has the bolts to drive the tube.
Funny you say you are lengthening one I had to shorten a second hand roller for someone.
