My old mum had the Hotpiont twin tubs, she wouldn't have an automatic type, the twin tubs were great tho, you could keep them going for ever, you could get all the replacement bearings and clutch shoes etc from a little local spares place, and they were nice simple tech easy to work on withno fancy space invaders electronics to speak of.

Yep my parents had the same! I remember helping mum doing the washing, you'd lift out the wet washing and put it in the spinner with a pair of wooden tongs then switch it on. I don't remember any safety switches on that as it was always still spinning when I opened the flap!

mums twin tub had an interlock on the lid, but no brake, so like you say still spinning when you opened it
that only got scrapped in the last few years

I used these, for wringing out washed things, in a drum with a lower bakelite stirrer. Then drying clothes in the cold -20.

great thing to work on. Best mates Mom had one. His dad used to work at the local tip. The thig had so many different motors on it, it was crazy! drive belts usually meant a trip down to the local motor factors. ( we had 4 at one time in Burntwood) for a fan belt of the right size. mounts were made from what ever was to hand. Old angle iron from beds, bits of scrap etc. One thing though. it was always massively engineered. so it wouldn't fall apart in a rush.

I have a few baccy tins with assorted fixings and fasteners salvaged over the years.

I inherited some cantelever tool boxes full of bits like that I've added to it over the years. Useful
