This repair looks pretty easy, as it would be possible to leave an old bearing in the casing, which would mean you could probably get away with no machining at all unless there is a circlip groove of some kind. If machining is needed, then that going to be straightforward, as the faces of the case should be true and can be clamped directly to the bed of a mill.

could the lip be removed and some sort of bolt on retaining strap be fitted ? ive seen this on many gearboxes the problem would be clearance of the drive gear on the end of the crank i think
Going to try and drill two 3-4mm holes through the lip and into the backing materials, then plug weld.
Will also countersink one bolt + loctite to mechanically fix it in place.
The bearing would still be push fit in the housing but hoping to secure it with Loctite 620.
I was going to buy new cases but the last place that stocked NOS cases sold out last week...No more fresh cases!

I'd like to see that, work. The lip is very small in relation to the rest of the casing, the heat required to plug the holes will melt the lip long before you plug them.
You'll never get all the oil out of that crack, it would be a mare to weld. I would remove the damaged bit and build it with weld and machine back
Well having had 3 quotes to do the welding job the cheapest was £90...that's just for the TIG welding, and doesn't even include putting it on a lathe to clean up the work after!
edit: Will try 4x stainless M3 15mm countersunk bolts first and see if that holds the lip in place...Can't think I'd need more than that!

If you can get a properly done repair for £90 then that seems pretty cheap unless new or good used parts can be had for less? There is no real need for machining, as fitting an old bearing into the case, and welding a completely new shoulder around that should work perfectly.
Trying to bolt the bearing location shoulder in place might work, but its also going to weaken the bearing housing quite a bit and may result in a spun bearing. Fitting the bearing with permanent Loctite will help here, but you will need to get it very hot to remove in future.
