Import duty for car parts from the USA

Does anyone know what the current rate is? I've not imported for a long time and can't remember what it was, only that duty and vat were painful.

Its a long time since I did this, vat was 15% last time I did it.
The duty didn't make a lot of difference?
Building a car the duty on parts bought varied from 0% to 5.8%.
It was the vat that hurt.

Suitcase has worked best when possible, up to cat converter sizes...

Otherwise recall a feeding frenzy of add ons after shipping unless it is a gift; duty, Fedex 'handling charge', VAT on top

It's a soft top that will cost ~ £500.

Back in the day I used to travel to the US a lot on business so carried back lots of parts in my luggage.

A pair of these drive shafts were heavy though.

I flew a complete Model A front axle with spindles and wishbones from thenUS to the Philippines, as checked luggage once. No hassle, except the US security hacked open all my acres of tape and cardboard to inspect it, then stuck it back together with four small piece of TSA tape......

Orderings new parts from the US to the U.K. I have shipped from a couple of companies who will sort all the paperwork and taxes etc in advance, so you pay them one fixed price to your door. Summit racing was one, forget the other now.

There is something else called Global Shipping, I think, who will do the same deal with anything you buy from there.

I've just bought from Rock Auto using the Global Shipping Program, easy as, arrived in two days. Also cheaper than buying it over here.
It wasn't as large or expensive though.
