A good bit holder can improve the life of your bits.
Impact rated ones have a shock absorber section that helps stop your bit shattering.

Someone mentioned screws falling off the bit.

The wera magnetic bit holder has a very strong magnet. It will hold 150mm 6mm pz3 screws without them falling off.

The best hex screwdriver bits that I have are Apex USA, bought over there in flat, Phillips, Pozi, and Robertson ( square ) styles.

Then there is the problem of folk who can't see what type of head is on the screw or what bit they are using.
This happens regularly in our Men's Shed. We try to stick to pz2 screws but sometimes we get boxes donated.
One guy was laying the floor on our mezzanine and complaining about the rubbish torq head screws. He was putting them in with a pz1 bit and mostly succeeding but the screw heads were a bit wrecked and the bit didn't last long.

Trying to use a pz2 bit on a pz3 screw is common too. As well as using pz bits on ph screws.
A decent bit on decent screws will last ages but not when you have monkeys using them. No matter how many times you tell them what bit they should use they still use the wrong ones and you hear the familiar brrrr noise of the bit camming out of the screw!

You won't like my house then! I've got a mix of all sorts posi and torx holding the studwork together, I used whatever was near me at the time.
It's my anti theft strategy...

I have never found this a problem, I assume you are talking about auto move fittings as for wood working they generally fit well and if not the magnetic bit holder will sort it out.
You get a new bit in every box of screws which usually seem to last long enough with torx heads to not become loose in the head.

Indeed I'm referring to Torx screws in an automotive setting.
Often they're in pretty inaccessible places where it's awkward to get a hand in (especially my big paws).
Magnetic bit holders don't work well with longer bolts, for they're heavier than a woodscrew.
In woodworking, access & most certainly corrosion won't be an issue in the majority of cases. So I can see why you like 'em. When I'm good order they drive really positively, but in the automotive world they're pants!
At least with an Allen screw that's rounded out one can thwack an old spline bit into them & sometimes get them undone. There's no chance of doing that with a Torx because of the shallow head.

You didn't have to go to such lengths on my account, over no designs on your walls ; had I though, your anti theft technique would have been v effective

Waste of time trying to tell them.
I don't bring my own bits into the shed or they would wreck them too!
