Immersion warning light

Not quite with you there,sorry. The neon is in a plastic casing which used to be clicked into the metal chassis of a hob. It has two leads from its back end which are long enough to do what I'm proposing. Do you mean I should cut these off to just leave enough to connect to the live and neutral of a 3 core?
The earth can connect to the timer switch earth terminal easily enough but where would the other end go? Should I find a metal-bodied neon or another sort of light?

u only need a 2core for the neon as long as its in a plastic enclosure and if the wire feeding it is exposed its double insulated theres no point in earthing it . look at a table lamp that has a plastic lampholder and frame 2 core cable no earth needed . metal lampholder 2 core with earth needed

Right I pulled 4" of sheath off a twin-core cable and threaded the neon's leads through it. It's all buried in the woodwork of the cupboard, and the neon is bright enough to remind me when the immersion's on. Thanks for all your guidance.
