Initiallly it looks like a type of mesh. It is not flimsy, but actually seems to be quite robust. It appears to be possibly made from stainless or it could be coated with chrome? At just 100mm wide it is probably for a specific application.

I can imagine that being interesting. I would like opportunities to look around production lines, a sort of real life 'how it's made'. Not a specific product, just seeing anything being made-the processes.
I worked for British steel for over 20 years in a stainless steel plant at Sheffield. The rolling mill was interesting, but lets say you needed earmuffs.
The only plant tour I have been round was one of the other departments - the melting shop. The electric arc furnaces with their 3 electrodes turning pieces of scrap stainless steel in to liquid.
