Hello all again!

It's been so long since I've been here I thought I ought to introduce myself again :ashamed:

My welding has come on loads, I can weld anywhere between 1mm and 8mm with my mig, I did all the aluminium tig welding on the schools electric car project, brief go with stick, and a weekend play with oxyacetylene

Since I was last here I have fully restored my 1974 motobecane mobylette, going in for MOT in a couple of weeks :clapping:

, Then I have to wait till september before I'm old enough to drive it! Brought another 1971 mobylette to restore :whistle:

and, and, get this, got a 1978 Citroen 2cv van!!! :cool:

Anyway - Hello all! I'll probably be asking advice on deux chevaux restoration soon, but for now I'm just saying hi! :hug:

Nice van! I love old vans and have a 1970 Commer P2500 which was a 14 seater bus. Turns out my father in law used to drive one when he was a rural headmaster (and hated it). Mine doesn't have any seats and is a little temperamental in starting but otherwise reliable. Do you have the lower side panels for your van?

I do indeed! It came with £600 worth of brand new panels!
Unfortunatly the ones I have replacments for are not the rotten ones :mad:

But I'm sure I can do something about it

Sorry, no. I meant the rear seats have been removed at some stage; still has the front seats. It has a large carrying space and does sterling duty but has an issue with the starter motor. It's looking a little shabby at the mo' but I will get onto it soon. The problem I have is I don't have a large enough space to work on it so I may brush paint it - do as nice a job as I can but spraying it would be more effort and cost than is justified. I don't think it would look too bad.

I can sympathise with that - I can only work on mine on sunny days because there is no room in the garage. Might take it up to the local garage to get it painted though, depending on the expense.

No I'm not a member yet - I owe my dad £540 for the van so now is probably not the best moment, hopefully for my birthday though

I can and I think I probably will do it - which is exactly the problem

babysitting and dog walking can't cover all this for a while :vsad:

I use "Gas Mark 5" for everything as nobody else ever uses it ( :rolleyes:

) and I only have to remember one name!

When I start doing proper work on it I'll probably put it in the projects section, should attract more people. I'm going to have a shot at patching up a hole in a door this weekend hopefully, post some pic's of progress :welder:

You might find it hard to corner any for the next week or so... as there is the biennial International Meeting of 2CV Friends (aka World Meeting), in Czech Republic this very week...

Even the 2CVGB forum is very quiet... I will post a note in our forum about your acquisition, if that's OK

I found on the 2CVGB website that as it is run by volunteers processing membership can sometimes take up to 6 weeks...as my 16th birthday is in about 6 weeks I've persuaded dad an extra £27.50 would be very well spent

Then I need a license, CBT, insurance, equipment and fuel for my mobylette

Depending on the presence of filler/primer first bit of welding this weekend hopefully!
Hole in the door, and cracked headlamp shell :welder:

Fortunatly, I have another passenger door, and another set of headlamp shells! So if anything goes dreadfully wrong it is not a complete disaster :clapping:

Yep... The membership secretary is away until 10th August - gone to the World Meeting.

More or less continuous rain the last two weeks! I have got to get a proper workshop, it's no fun working in the rain, and somehow I doubt my welder is terribly fond of it either... :welder:

Anyway, managed to weld the headlamp shell, and I've cleaned up and cut the rust out of the door.

Does anyone recommend any particular filler or primers? I'm going to take the whole lot up to the garage to be spray painted when I'm ready but that will probably be a long time so I just want something to stop it rusting until then. Preferable cheap, unless they really, really don't do the job well enough...
