Makes you wonder why the words come out of your mouth though, doesn't it. The brain knows full well what the reaction is going to be, yet the mouth still utters the words. It's like telling them not to worry about their eyesight as they appear to have perfect vision, when they're questioning their size.

I try to engage the brain before talking but generally I realise my mistake about four words into the reply I'm saying. By that time it's too late.

I've found a random argument easier in that scenario. Pause, look around the room, and pick up on something, anything, which will lead to less pain in an argument than finishing the sentence you'd started. It's basically using a womans tactics in our own favour.
