I found pre heating small items in the domestic oven made using the rods far easier. They did a grand job of repairing a complicate and expensive coolant system part on a car I used to own that had suffered serious errossion.

Someone on here bought cheap and ended up with Tig Ali rods that wouldn't melt I seem to remember. They should work exactly as he shows....if they don't then it's probably duff rods I reckon so just keep an eye.

this is all I'm on about, Ali angle frame, bits and pieces of checker robbed from the scrap bin for shelves ect. The thin galv sheets would still have to be riveted I suppose.
Surely this would be a good use of these rods for an amateur to cobble together something under very little stress.

Durafix are definitely the ones I've been using so I can recommend those....also buy from a descent seller...I remember someone on here receiving tig rods!

Yeah - mine were off amazon and claimed to be "low temperature" but actually state a melting point of 620C (Aluminium melts at 660C, so not much in it!).
I questioned them and they confirmed they were TIG rods and sent me more, which came direct from China. TIG rods again.

I then bought a small pack (5 I think) of Durafix from an Amazon seller and they were much better, although that's a bit of a misnomer given the cheap ones didn't work at all and the proper ones did!

I've since learned that you want rods with a melting temp of 350-420C, which is Durafix or Lumiweld.
Funnily enough I just ordered some new Durafix from Oxford Welding Supplies which are cheaper than the Amazon supplier.

I bought 20 for £35 incl. postage, but they also do other sizes / prices. Note that you'll need at least one aluminium or stainless steel brush too.

I have one and rods too [well the R-Tech 180 does it with scratch start]. It's my defective close up 3-D vision in the one eye which I found difficult the first couple of times I tried it, the tungsten spent more time in the puddle &/or making holes to the extent that it put me off trying.

Must get back to it and persevere, as it'd mean I could weld inside the cave without risking a major conflagration...... But too many 'projects' on the list and so little time....

I'd buy a bunch of the durawelds / lumifixes if what turns up ends up being tig rods. It's very satisfying to watch them melt into the joint.

Got a bit of 101 left from Christmas, what was a pleasant surprise was the Gentleman Jack I got as well, much smoother than its little brother, thought it would be awful sweet stuff as it comes in a right tacky looking bottle but it's a pleasent tipple.

And me that's why the Jim Beam is there I can stomach that, on campsites it seems to attract instant 'friends' so it can get expensive putting the good stuff out.
