If you ever need a key...

Timpsons outright refused. Company policy they must supply all blanks. So I said ok. He looked at the blank for a moment , "oh I dont have that, I'll need to order it in". Ok then. He got a big book out, spent 10 minutes looking through, couldnt find it. Insists I let him photo my key, so some git at head office can choose a blank that, will probably be wrong. Nope he can photo my blank, he refused.
Yet I had a blank in my hand... Price didnt come into it, I would have paid..

What kind of mentality is that? Stupidity.

I need a key cutting for my Astra, but I don't have the Key/Card/Code. But I do have key cover on my insurance. Been very loathe to claim on the insurance for a key as I don't know how that might affect my NCD so will probably just cough up the £90

Strange outfit. Last time I went in one I asked for a key to my truck to be cut as a spare door key as dog was able to lock the truck from inside.

they refused and said they would only supply the correct chipped key. I didn’t want one to start the cjust one to tie wrap underneath to get back in. They wouldn’t budge so I got a blank and filed

Key cover is provided independently of your 3rd party insurance. The only cost to you is the excess (for the key cover).

I wanted a key for my Transit camper, one with no chip so I could undo the door but not start it. This was so if I went swimming I could lock the “proper” key inside & carry a plain one. Timsons refused to cut one, gave me all sorts of rubbish that it would screw up the immobiliser, the vehicle would never run again if used in the ignition. I said just cut it, I’ll take that chance, but they wouldn’t cut it. I should have told him that he didn’t know what he was talking about & talking complete horlicks, but I didn’t want to create a scene!

This post has just reminded me, there was a spate of fuel cap thefts from Peugeot & Fiat range of camper vans for a while. They were nicking the caps, getting a key to fit, knowing that it would get them in & start it. There was advice going round to replace the cap with one with a different key. Apparently there were quiet a few vans stolen in this way.
