Oh there's room in there for it, and the motor is no real problem. My problem is access - short of knocking a hole right through the house I can't actually get the thing near.

Shop around as i've just bought a colchester student with around 50 bits of tooling, 2 chucks, box of drill bits (most sizes from 5mm to around 30mm), 5 centres and various chucks for £200! Admittedly, it was a workshop clearance that the landlord knew nothing about the worth of things, but there are still bargains to be had out there.

I have a small 'hobby' lathe which needs a new home. Can't remember the make but probably around 36" bed, 5 speed (belt change), about 1" up the spout. 3 phase. Came out of an old school a few years back and we've been using it for little bits and bobs in the workshop. Works but could do with a good stripdown and rebuild as there is some play in the cross screw.

Hmmm, paid £450 for my mk 2 (flat top) student. Again, 3 and 4 jay cjucks, 3 quick change tool posts + loads of bits. I recon it's had about 50 hours use in total too! Just need to re-wire the house and get a 3ph converter installed and it's good to go!

Are you saying you cannot lift it and transport it or literally it will not fit between walls??

We have a spider crane in work (south wales) that will lift 3 ton but you can get bigger cranes that will lift the lathe over a wall etc.. Not as much as a large crane to hire out for a day.
Im sure someone might have one near you.

It literally will not fit down the narrow alley, which has a 90-degree bend. Crane is out of the question my road is a main route into town so no road-closures (even if I was inclined to pay for it), bus stop out front etc and I'd need a 250 tonner at least to get the reach over the house.

Yer but this crane is on tracks and will fit through a 600mm door then the legs fold out and away you go..

Available with or without driver and much cheaper than a normal road crane.

Aye we had one of them to use under the road in the Mersey Tunnel - what a great piece of kit. Wouldn't help me unfortunately as the pinch-point is a 90-degree turn in a thin alleyway. Nowhere to put the legs down.

I really only put the post up for the interest of other members as I couldn't use it. Just sharing what seemed like a good deal for anyone looking for a medium-sized lathe.
