Is that black tape covering up an engine (or similar) warning light by any chance?
That's just plane old lazy, people I know normaly take the bulb out
It is indeed a piece of tape covering the bulb
I’ve known people to take the bulb out too as the light shines through the tape

I tried that with an SRS light on a BMW Z3 once.
The dam thing has secondary back up bulbs built in to the binacle that can't be accessed!

Looks like oil temp not pressure
MOT testers are not allowed to remove anything from cars. Not sure if they are allowed to mention it in advisories though? @doubleboost might be able to clarify?

It’s a vw toureg and has the woeful 2.5tdi it’s had a new crank and dual mass the first replacement only lasted 40k it’s solely used as a tow vehicle and has a very unforgiving driver
I sort of did the same thing on an old Sierra - the plastic blank over the ABS warning light (coz mine didn't have it) seemed to have shrunk over the years and light "leaked" from the adjacent lights and made it look like the ABS light was on (only dimly but visible and the MOT man wouldn't accept the fact that the merest glance under the bonnet was enough to tell that the car didn't have and had never had ABS). I "did it properly" though and pulled the binnacle apart before cutting a piece of insulation tape ever so neatly to cover the "light" - you couldn't tell I'd done it afterwards and MOT man passed it on the re-test.

I knew a Polish guy that was handy with a soldering iron , lost count of the number of EMLs that would go out with the oil pressure light!

There is a lad over here who specialises in installing a wee circuit with a 555 timer to turn warning lights off after a few sevonds.
It would probably be quicker to fix the fault properly.
