i've just bought a new regulator/water trap unit which has come with an additional part to make the water trap auto drain.

however, for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to fit what I presume is basically a float valve. I spoke to the sales guy over the phone and he said it just screws in the bottom of the bowl but the manual valve is not unscrewing - it just spins because it's a sprung assembly.

I've unscrewed the white filter and nothing matches the thread there.

The bronze nut in the bottom of the bowl just spins.

id have said that black filter fits on the side of the unit

whilst the bottle fastens as is to the bottom

It does look, to me, as if the float is supposed to go inside the unit, with its thread replacing that if the bowl. So float "floats" and water gets out.

But thats not going to happen under pressure anyway, and, as you say, the thread in the bowl does not seem removable (you said brass thing or something)

The metalworks (devilbis) ones are just sprung loaded so they're always open when depressurise. I can't see that the float thing is an upgrade on that.

I've got a few of those black drain valves and they work ok.

If you don't need the nut off the bowl remove it with a grinder.

Does the white plastic cover separate from the drain - hopefully to reveal the clip that's holding the manual drain?

Edit - actually, I wonder if you need a different bowl - thats the clear bit of the bowl poking out the bottom of the white plastic cover - no way your auto-drain is going through that.

You would want MX2-1/2-FR0304
Comes with the drain installed. That drain you have is a spare part for the number above, not a retrofit part for yours
