Identify this old tool

Does anyone know what this is? It turned up at my local last night and we can't figure out what it is. The two jaws align when the handles are opened, and the jaws open when the handles are closed. it looks like it's for extracting something, but what? A couple of guesses were that it was a farriers tool, or something to do with roofing.

its a nail remover sort of like a crowbar close handles to prise nail out pinchers are another type of tool that does the same

Tack/ pin lifter. Used to be used when remove base from snooker tables.

Slide both jaws under the large flat head (think roofing felt tack) and then as you apply pressure the tack is lifted.

Not sure about nail/tack removal, even though it seems obvious. The narrow v groove where a nail head would go has straight sides. I would expect it to be shaped more like a claw hammer or tack lifter with the arris removed on the top of the v.

It seems more like something used to prise something apart under tension, or to add tension to something.

That door trim removal tool is the closest thing I’ve seen to it online.

The good thing about some modern tools, they are based on an older design.

It looks like a tool for removing the tendons from a dead chickens legs. I grew up on a poultry farm, we used one , part of the gutting process.

i've seen something like that for tensioning bowden cables.
can't remember the applucation though.

When I was young I worked for a time for a packaging company making crates. It looks like the tool we used for removing large staples on damaged cardboard containers so the pallet bases could be reused.

I think your thinking of a bicycle mechanics third hand I think they call it, to tension the cables when setting up brakes.
