I have a chu k I assume off the vintage drill press I bought recently . It's a belco made in England
3/16-3/4. Until now I've been unable to remove the mt3 arbour. Not sure if it's tapered or threaded. Any help would be appreciated. The only other markings is 8Tcap.

Something that exists in a picture found on the web is very different to (a UK source of) something that you can pay reasonable money for and have delivered to your doorstep in a reasonable time. It would thus be rather more helpful to someone seeking the product if they were provided with such a link rather than a chimera.

To the OP: 100% it is a Jacobs taper as above. The only common threaded shank in that size would be 1/2" diameter so the diameter and visible thread ends would be the giveaways if that were the case.

You can look up the large end diameter of the various Jacobs tapers (this page has everything you need: https://www.tools-n-gizmos.com/specs/Tapers.html), and work out which one you have, either by direct measurement or by comparison with the large end of the 3MT you have. We have had umpteen threads here on the forum in the past about drill chuck removal, so browsing the archives will tell you everything you need to know.

Tried a home made wedge but was to soft. Thought I'd get more info before doing anything else

Why do you want to remove the arbour? If your homemade wedges are unsuccessful and bought ones cost £18+ you may find buying a good used chuck/arbour a better proposition.

hold it in your hand and give it a few taps with a copper hammer on the morse taper before you get carried away buying things ,,, odd it hanst got the slot in it for a key though

Drill a hole in the back of the chuck and use a punch to drive out the arbour.
