The thermal fuse (second from left) had a broken leg, so perhaps that prevented overtemp shutdown. Reattached.

While heating the screw, it was drawing about 1.6A, equivalent to 380W or so. Power factor was close to one.
A little bit different from the claimed 1000W, but maybe it draws more when heating a bigger thing. I couldn’t be bothered replacing the board fuse, so it will run with a 5A one in the plugtop.
Anyway, many thanks to @BrokenBiker for sending it to me for nothing. Might come in handy for doing the Landy’s rear wheel bearings, discs and pads!
It is a cracking tool for stuck nuts and bolts.
