They are rod ends for steering on the cats. I used to use rose joints but they had limited movement and wore out quickly so I made these up. They allow lateral misalignment and also have full 360 degree rotation so tilting a single engine is possible, with the rose joints you had limited movement so often had to tilt both engines at the same time.

What type of bronze were you using?

PB 104, because that's what I happened to have in the chunky size I needed. Tough stuff to machine, and especially to drill; I like to use Colphos if I have a choice of Bronze material.

I did run a Magnet over it, as I have a faint memory been told thats what it was. It didn't have any attraction to the bar or the swarf. I believe its only got about 6% steel in it

Apparantly it's due to the manganese often present in aluminium bronze, manganese isn't magnetic on its own but becomes it when alloyed.

Wish I'd paid more attention in school.

Thanks for the offer. Out of interest how much would you need

Big enough to cover the sensor, say 25-30 diameter by a few millimmetres thick would do it, that's the size of the calibration pieces for it.
