And based right near you in Manchester.
When sorting through late father-in-laws shed found a tin full of copper rivets of different sizes - they were for brake shoes. I've kept them as I like classic cars and maybe one day they will get used![]()
My Al-Ko trailer axil has the same raised parts on my drums.
They are stamped up Al-Ko.
Could they be both used on both axils.
Copper rivets for break shoes are sold soft, as you rivet them they work harden.
getting there
removed the shoes and sized up at 250x40
All i can find are shoes with these silver, i thunk return thing fitted.

The new shoes have an auto reverse on them. All braked trailers manufactured after 1982 must have them. Your axles are either military or have been made before 1982 or worst case scenario is someone put the wrong shoes in.
ah wondered what it was lol.
The axles are from a 5.5ton trailer thats all i know, not sure when it was built.
Will get a few sets then.
cheers all for the help guys mucho grasyares![]()
The auto reverse function only works if you have the correct hitch. They must have a gas damper inside and a solid rod to pull the brake cables to actuate them. if the axles are off a 5.5ton trailer they may well be from a military or agricultural trailer and would have had brakes actuated by hydraulic rams pushing brake rods to expand the shoes inside the drums.
edit: just had another look at the pictures of the rear of the axles. They look like normal cable operated brakes so potentially pre 1982 set up. Should be easy enough to fit the new auto reverse style brakes in them as long as the correct hitch set up is used to actuate them.
