Just to let you know that I'm welding (see 'patching sill on a Pork'). I'd like to thank all who helped in this including Mark for the manual and Weldequip for the service kit that finally got the wire feeding through the SIP 130. Works great but I ended up adding a small nut to the end of the tensioner bolt. Anyway, here are my first practice welds including a couple without gas and some zero penetration efforts for your amusement.........

That's not galvanised stuff you are welding is it? Ideally wants cleaning off before welding to prevent heavy metal poisoning (bad stuff to get).

Looks like the welder is working. Technique might need a little work though Try moving the torch slower and from side to side (or even in little circles) as you move along. Results in a wider, flatter weld with more penetration and more chance of joining 2 bits together. Gas looks like it's on the low side with the blackening.

If it's OK I'll shift this over to the learning MIG section as it's more welding than machines..

5th. run looks good (from the left) - bit of Anti-Spatter Spray & cleaning preparation as Malcolm suggests & as good as any back-street garage - if not better!!
