It's amazing when you think about it, and I'm as guilty of this as anyone, that there's such value placed on working until you drop, yet so little on going through life happy and with little more than you actually need.

I think that's why the lock downs were a revelation for so many. That "hang on a minute" moment when in spite of not working hard for long hours things were OK. The enforced conditions meant that you weren't scrabbling to get two foreign holidays, update your gadgets etc. It turned out that there was plenty of cloth to cut the suit from if you only needed one.

im fortunate . live next to main line station and the winds are mainly south west . away from my house wasnt lucky yesterday mind washed and polished van and car washed the windows and frames on house . got up this morning and the whole lot covered in red dust aparently carried up with the wind from the sahara desert and dropped over england

Maybe fit some of those misters like in the Aldi's fresh veg coolers to spray up

Yet again another coincidence. Installing a new woodstove and needed a 7 to 5 inch sump. local woodstove thieves quoted £60 plus for £2 for thin stainless one. Spent this PM making a substantial one from workshop sweepings. The luckily my workshop is always cool as its in the shade of a substantial hedge and is concrete and block build.

I'm not doing anything much and I'm sweating like Jimmy Saville at a school sports day.

The heat and sun hasn't been much use to us in our household since we're trying to be first time parents to a 1 week old baby boy. But the silver lining indeed is that my welding work has been pushed back some weeks!

May I make a suggestion? I don't know how interested you are in photo's but if you take a photo of nipper asap in your favourite chair and then take one every !st of the month for at least the first couple of years in the same chair you will ,obviously ,have a great record of growth and change . What usually happens is that 10 million photo's are taken for a couple of months and then in a few years time you will no idea of his progression.

A 26" Sealey fan at work plus road tests - lots of road tests, with aircon set to 19degrees... then drive home (aircon set to 19degrees) walk the hellish six metres from car to front door, suffer the oppressive heat until into the house - aircon running at 21degrees all day (not too cold for the dogs & birds).
Cost is an extra £35 a month for the electric, I installed the aircon in 2017, the neighbours thought it was just a waste of money at the time....

In all honesty, when I worked in Africa & M.E. once you'd been there for >2 weeks, you barely noticed the heat, just some changes to routine & timings (all heavy work done before 0700) and you were grand.

I have six Hozelock time clocks running over 100 micro misting vari jet spray heads . It took me years and a lot of money to discover the best set up getting everything from " Grow Insane "

One specifically to the front of a fan about three foot way will drop the air temp several cooling degrees . Several can be used to have a kiddies fun spray mister .....they use very little water .

That's the problem in the UK, we don't have any sort of weather long enough to acclimatise. It goes from Baltic to death Valley in a day, then a few days later you're on the phone to Noah.

Where I've worked this week is a hard ground, still-air sun trap.
Mostly all day on a large commercial log cutter/splitter driven by a 120hp tractor.
Lifting 1-metre across × 300mm+ thick sections of tree trunk (guessing sone weigh 30kg ish) into the splitter, then splitting them down into >300mm split log pieces.
Most days the ambient has hit 30c by early afternoon, plus the heat radiating & blown over you by the machine (the hydraulic tank gets so hot you can't leave a bare hand on it for more than a second or two).
In between I've also replaced the starter motor on an LT46, & a hydraulic hose on the arm of a JCB Teletruck & had to bleed another machine up twice after its operator forgot to check its fuel level & ran it dry.
It's been a hard week I don't mind saying. Thankfully today starts off on the PC to do a bit of admin, then maybe later to do some fettling on a Unimog (but that's on another site, cooler & under cover).

I spent wednesday applying the third coat of west epoxy to the inside of my vintage motor launch rebuild. Went well, ideal hot conditions so i was only mixing 10 shots at a time as it was going off so quick. Only problem was a had to keep wiping my head & face with a towel as drops of sweat kept falling in the epoxy which it doesnt like! Cleaned the surface with soapy water & scotchbrite yesterday ready for painting with primer today. She is starting to look like a boat that may go to sea again!
