I wish you could still get decent oil based white gloss.

The old days when white oil based gloss stayed white for a decent amount of time on woodwork in the house seem long gone now .

What's the best water based people have used on here lately? Anything near a oil based gloss finish yet?

Just decorated Daughters lounge, I can put up with water based for undercoat / primer on skirting backmoulds door frames, -- however radiators, windows, got to be oil based primer,undercoat, then Gloss.
finished off a tin of Dulux, then started on a fresh tin of Crown, but it wasnt white in the tin, had a canny tinge of eau de nil (light green) but the tin assures users it dries white----- it did. Time will tell how long it lasts. Dulux and Crown both standard liquid, dont like thixotropic or them jelly non drip gloss.

Well hope it stays white for you. I have got some of the so called reformulated recent stuff from Dulux (free as it happens, Dulux paid as the old stuff went yellow so fast). Still goes yellow faster than I would like in lower light areas.

I have got areas which were painted many years before in low light areas (pre voc regs 2009) which are far whiter than these new areas painted last year

I just thinking I have got to give it up now for interior use and face it - water based

Has some good reviews on amazon but... some are getting the yellow problem.

I assume it will be low light conditions which is the problem as with all the current oil based glosses.

Yeah I know what you mean, the thing is I would like brilliant gloss white, I was hoping that a water based had got close to the gloss of a traditional oil based does.

I did my daughters room in water based 2 years ago and boy it's is ultra white still but just lacks the look of a true oil based gloss.

Have you tried the Crown or Dulux trade brilliant white solvent paints? I find the trade seem to stay whiter for longer and are not the horrible non drip rubbish. Speaking of yellow I once used the cheapo B&Q white solvent years ago and it went yellow in weeks!

Used the No Nonsense Trade Satinwood from Screwfix in our gaff 8 months ago, still white too.

Dislike high gloss paint in the house, no idea why, just don't like it.

I've found the water based stuff realy good. Just requires a lot of prep and two coats.

Supposedly the quick drying one is still high in VOC's or whatever and doesn't suffer from the yellowing. Personally I don't rate dulux and almost always use Leyland unless otherwise requested

If you're gonna buy Dulux paint then get it from the Dulux centre and not Homebase/b&q etc,
the paint formulation in the diy centres is different to what they sell in the Dulux paint centres,

All the payouts on the yellowing white gloss only applied if you bought it from a diy centre.

Dulux Trade weathershield - exterior high gloss. Not cheap especially when used with their undercoat but well worth it.

there are loads of paints and related products made in hull by akzo nobel they did make permoglaze paints not sure if they still do, hammerite is on their list as is this lot

You chaps seem to be going for the cheaper trade paint....as far as I know Dulux,Johnsons gloss white is in the £35 bracket for 2.5 litres and at that price you'd expect it to stay white.

Anyone tried cellulose car paint on their woodwork? great range of whites in that and it doesn't seem to yellow.
