I will never understand this kind of "art"

My next art project is to transfer piles of household dust to other piles on white card.

I shall call the work, " A Waste Of Futility".

Anyone recall the two guys who burned 1 million pounds in the name of anti art which kind of defeated its/their purpose, ( K- Project ).

I did however have a more artistic appreciation for Christo and Jean - Claude who covered buildings with fabric.

I once saw an exhibit in a Shopping centre which consisted of an old iron bedstead, a mattress with a mechanism underneath that moved 2 mechanical metal rod arms with bits of plank on the ends. As the mechanical arms moved slowly in & out either side of the bed, they gently squashed two pillows together.
You can get there was some kind of Freudian symbolism going on, but basically it was a pile of tat thrown together to make some pretty unsophisticated fnar fnar ooh Matron bad anology bigged-up as "art".

Having an oddball quirky imagination / innuendo alone does not an artist make. I reckon if I could produce it without any discernible artistic talent - then its not art.

There's a big difference between having an open mind, & classing that as art. You can appreciate his effort & vision on several fronts, but art it is not.

1. I think there's sound reasoning as to why no-one else did it.
2. I am generally ambivalent about such things - I do not mind that they exist (though might mutter somewhat if I was indirectly paying for it via the council to display it in a shopping centre).

I had a browse around a ‘modern art’ display somewhere in the renovated Liverpool dockland facilities a good few years ago, while killing time renewing a passport. By the time I was halfway round I was literally laughing out loud. I wasn’t sure if the whole thing was an elaborate pish take, or if I was totally missing something.

Art......the sort of instance where 'deserved legal scamming ' comes to mind, chuck a couple of old fish in the middle to give it an air of authenticity.

When I was 16 or 17 I came across a saying which I used successfully adapted and used many years later to slam dunk a pompose house holder regarding builders he had employed.

James Whistler, the Artist, 1834-1903, said once " You shouldn't say it is not good. You should say, you do not like it; and then, you know, you're perfectly safe."

Something I try to keep in mind when viewing art in any form.

Whistler for once, was being kind as he was known to be rather prickly, in fact savage.

So with that in mind, that pile of rope is " no good " and a pile of C**P imo.

This is the same artist who gaffa taped a banana to a canvas I believe, and sold it for loads.

Many years ago I saw this art installation in a gallery, and it was quite impressive, the embers of a burnt chapel.
