A neighbour does own a welder, but does not do much welding. He turned his BOC bottle in last year.
He uses those small disposable bottles now.
He was saying the other day, the new gas is rubbish.


I had a look and found out ther was no gas flow. He insisted the bottle was charged, as the gauge told him so.

Thats a flow gauge not contents!

I've been victim of something similar here with a water system fed from a bore hole.
A water pump starts up when the pressure drops - pressure is stored in an air tank.
The tank & "zero'ised" manifold pressure gauge were fitted new 2 years ago and set to keep 4 bar pressure, all seemed to work ok.
I recently did more work and fitted an extra gauge on the outlet pipe (same height, about 6ft away from the first gauge) so they should give the same reading. The outlet shows 2 bar when the inlet shows 4 bar
When I unpressurised everything to check the manifold gauge now rests at 2 bar. It rises when the system is pressurised so the gauge moves ok but reads 2 bar higher than it should.

Gremlins???

Thanks, I have bottles here, we did the job and net week we are collecting a new bottle.

My argoshield bottle is still half full, though I sold the Mig last week. After four years paying rent it grieves me to take it back with so much gas still in it. I might let it out just so it’s easier to carry.

Pity you aren’t closer to me, you could have used up this gas before I returned the bottle.

The amount I do, it would take a month of Sundays for me to empty it, only ever do bits & pieces.

That's why all my regulator flowmeters have the gage for the tank contents, and the ball in vertical tube for flow.
No doubt as to what is going on.
