Steve, that shopriver ebay seller is very good and the delivery is super quick. The bag of consumables was just marked as plasma cutter parts and I think it was marked as $10 for import purposes. They also sell cutters, mig, mma/tig etc but the postage on those is over £150 so I expect you would get clobbered but for £20 worth of bits I don't think you would pay much anyway.

In all honesty, most would have scrapped it but I bought it knowing it needed a lot of work (not quite that much mind) but what I will say is, it's forums like this (and thelatebay.com) which keep the focus on big projects like this one. If I need advice on the welding side, I'll come here and if I need Vee Dub advice on what I might have missed I pop over there. So for any future Q's or help needed I thank you all for the help and anything I can do to offer advice which I may have gleaned somewhere else to anyone I am most happy to help.

Had an Exup 1000RU in Vance and Hines colours and an R1. Few Blades and a Mille R. All sold on.

regarding the regulator, it's not a filter that matters so much as the water trap as moisture in the air will supposedly do your consumables in really quick. having said that i've got a chinese cut-40, bought it on ebay.de so no duty, and i've put the hose barb into the back of the machine with a couple of foot of 10mm plastic pipe and mounted the reg/water trap on the front side where you can see it and with a pcl fitting. i think i had to buy a 1/4 x 10mm push fit elbow to make it possible. anyway, water trap or not these machines still eat tips like i eat cheeseburgers.

Tell me about it. I went through about 7 sets on the chassis of the bus the other week but boy does this thing make light work of cutting out the crap!

yeah it's a useful bit of kit, i wouldn't want to be without mine. you can't cut a circle with a grinder that's for sure. and i still have loads of spares from the set i got from IRiver or whatever he's called these days after over a year. in fact i've never changed the ceramic parts just the tips and electrodes. i've just got a guide thing which might help even more as it keeps the tip the right distance away so should save the tip. since i got it i almost never use my cut-off saw as i'ts much noisier and slower as well.
