I think I can't weld

Anyone remember The Generation Game with Brucie? Where contestants had a go at making things well here's my 1st attempt

Opinions would be appreciated.
I did have hassle with the brass tip(0.6),the wire kept on getting stuck. I need to get some new ones.
I went to my local power tool supplier with the old one,they didn't have one. I then asked for somethig else. On the way out,I realised the old tip had slipped through my fingers,and now lost...grrrr. I went to another place and tried to guess on the diameter,I ended up buying the wrong ones,too big of a diameter,even though they were 0.6.

Hold off the car for a bit and try practicing on some scrap metal. If you know anyone who can weld then person to person instruction is the fastest way to work things out. Otherwise so long as you aren't messing up anything important trial and error should work.

I tend to advise getting hold of 1.5mm sheet for practice. From there we'll need to help you with a starting point for the settings. What kind of welder do you have? Probably we can point you in the right direction for a new tip too.

You can do better than that! Are you using gas ? Turn it on then! Your first attempt should be on scrap metal. Start checking from your wire to the end of your torch. Wire must be clean. Liner must be clean . Feed roller tension checked adjusted. Match wire dia to tip. check gas and earth connections. Clean metal to be welded . Adjust feed and power on similar thickness scrap metal. Practise on scrap. Make sure shroud is perfectly clean. If not use a big screw to clean out.

All is ok,the fella who I bought it off,showed me how to operate it,and the weld was better than what I've done,naturally.

I used a twist knot bevel brush,fantastic it is,cleaned up well.

Make sure shroud is perfectly clean. If not use a big screw to clean out

Aaaaaaaahhhhhhh....it sorta scares the livin crap outta a fella on his first attempt without any guidance huh??? You shoulda seen some of the boners I created on scrap. My buddy that came over to set me up after couldn't stop laughin the whole time. Scrap, scrap, scrap...use same piece with a bead from each power setting on it, then move the wire speed up and down from the middle area initially. It took me a while of goofing around but you eventually get the 'feel' for it all. There's a bunch of guys on this forum that really know a fair bit and you'll benefit from their expertise.

Are you sure thats your welding and not where you accidently locked some pigeons in the boot!!!!!!!!

No only joking mate that was exactly the same as my first ever attempt. The one thing i will say is make sure that you dont make the same mistake i made!!! not using a mask for 6hrs welding, because i couldn't see what i was welding. I woke up at 3am ,my eyes streaming it felt like somebody had thrown a handfull of sand in my eyes!!!!!!!!!

Blimey, I thought mine was bad! Try turning the wire speed down, that might help with the splatter, are you using CO2 or an argon/co2 mix, the mix will be easier to use. I'd also invest in a few abrasive flap wheels and follow up the wire wheel with them, it needs to be really shiny clean. I also clean miy work off with solvent to make sure theres no oil or grease. If you are welding outside then if theres a breeze it might be blowing the gas away.

Don't feel quite so bad about my welding now!!!!!

Though I haven't had the kahoonas to go ANYWHERE near someones car yet, I'm still blowing holes in and piling bird poo up on scrap bits and the barbecue I STILL havent finished.

When I took my first attempt at a welding repair into the MOT station;
the friendly Proprietor said "Whats that......?"
"Welding" I replied,
"Well you could...... call it that, I suppose.....?" was his retort.
I did get an MOT pass and it does get better honestly.

take all the paint of from the joints,and it looks like u'v machine gunned it thats too much wire fead mate.when the torch jolts backwards and fowards, the wire just folds and melts thats machine gunnin! wire burnin! pepperin etc

I think someone needs a hug for trying, not too many people even attempt such a job as that, but kudos my friend. Remember everybody, we all welded like that our first time trying.
