Which Holbrook do you have. Jealous! My Holbrook does it to a couple of tenths of a thou, gauge tray in the front way cover, micrometer dead stop and a clever overtorque cam in the apron that disengages the feed...

Another very nice lathe! My graziano did that. It had 4 stops I think from memory. It’s was old but waaaaay ahead of its time. Even had a hydraulic copy follower on it. Think it was 60s / 70s
SAG 180
I was very sad to sell thatAnother very nice lathe!
Some pics.@fizzy do you have a bed stop? Would love dimensions on it if you do!
Stunning I am still kicking myself I didn't buy the Holbrook Minor on Ebay just before Christmas.Model C13, it's been a labour of love
Still not finished, but very usable

The top slide and cross slide have zero wear. Puts my Triumph to shame.Done from necessity no doubt. It won't affect how the machine works and it WAS very cheap.
This is true, you'll never use that section of the *tailstock* ways, it's ugly but fully functional - I'd be worrying there were other 'improvements' done with equal 'skill'. Check the rest over *thoroughly*...I don't see the issue? Yes it's not what you want to see but that's the vee for the tailstock, which will never ever ride on that section, lots of lathes are modified in this way.
If the rest of the bed is in good order then neaten it up so it looks less like it was chewed out by a beaver and enjoy the extra swing.
You need a copy of Machine Tool Reconditioning... There are pdf copies lying about on the interwebby thing doing nothing. Lazy burgers.Excuse my ignorance but how do you scrape the V ways on a lathe?
With the topslide extended I can just about miss the damaged section.
I will buy the spare bed and live with it for now
Well there is zero backlash on the topslide and cross slide which is most unusual. This is true, you'll never use that section of the *tailstock* ways, it's ugly but fully functional - I'd be worrying there were other 'improvements' done with equal 'skill'. Check the rest over *thoroughly*...
