I need a Welding Trolley

Having purchased a new welder I now need to organise my working space, So thinking of a double angled stack.

With the angle making the controls easier to see!

I liked the asthetics of Old Tony's trolley on YouTube with the curved top corners.

Also with cables galore I'm thinking of having a cable tidy hook on the side.

I'm going to make a Bottle shelf, so it can sit behind the welders.

Another idea which has crossed my mind is to have a grinder rack on the other side with possibly some tubes to store welding rods.


Is there any ideas/suggestions I might have overlooked?

If I'm going to build my own I might as well go the full way!

Potentially I might upgrade the Clarke MIG I currently own, So might give myself some extra space just incase another machine replaces it.

Looks pretty good, But don't need helmet/gloves storage. A small tray for consumables would be a good idea. Maybe have an angled draw to sit under the bottom welder. It then uses up the dead space at the bottom.

I did notice that twin bottle should be considered! Getting an Argon Bottle soon.

That's the thing about building your own, you can make it to suit your own particular needs. I made mine with [iirc] 4" castors, two fixed at the back and two 'twirly' braked ones for the front, but my trolley never leaves the shed, it gets wheeled to the door since I have to weld outside . Initially I made space on the rear of the trolley for my gas bottle(s) but quickly got fed up hauling all that weight around. Trolley shortened, bottles chained to the wall and longer supply hoses...job jobbed!

In theory, the larger diameter the wheel/castor, the easier it is to move [think of those old prams ]. But, it'll mean they have to be mounted outboard of the trolley body, and make it longer too. Just don't make them too small.......

Hooks for welding cables, somewhere to put tools, make sure you can open the welder to change mig wire... Maybe even a holder for the MIG gun... A 45 Degree piece of tubing works well.

Might get some 5/6" wheels to make pulling it along easier on the rougher stuff. Used 3" casters on most my builds, But that's all stuff that won't ever leave the garage unless I move house!

Will sketch something up before wasting material on a design which isn't the greatest.

I bought a MM cart when I got the Clarke 151T - a shoogly, top-heavy thing it was too.

Can't beat one built to your own design to accommodate the equipment/tools you have.

Mine was solid on any ground, probably due to the welded joint assy not crappy nuts and bolts.

I kept mine 'as bought', because I suspected I might need to dismantle it for onward sale - and I was right.
