I'd have given him a quote to include:

Route cross country
Fuel and bribes for farmers as above
Your time
Refreshments on route
Return taxi fare
Refreshments on return route
Legal fees (when he sees how knackered his ATV has become on your 'final ride')
Beer money
£100 to spend on something fun.


Then await collection.

I notice that a lot of sellers on fleabay are dodging fees by putting small prices on articals and hiking up the postage costs (on which you don't pay fees), can't blame anyone trying to dodge high fees, but if the artical goes for a high price then it all gets a bit expensive. Don't be totally put off. Do your sums and it can work out well.

I've bought a lot of kit from the USA.

Saved (many) several hundred quid on a watch for the wife recently.

When ever I have been to a real auction I stand at the back and look totally disinterested, if the price is right I give a wink to the auctioneer right at the last moment.

I did this about 16 years ago at a car auction; my dad worked there and tipped me off that there were several Astramax vans going through (the company was after one). So I went down the night before and gave them the once-over with him, decided which two I liked best and turned up for the auction armed with the boss's cheque book . The best of the lot went through first and made top money, then the others got progressively worse until the last one, which was my second choice. By now only two guys were bidding so I waited until they ran out of steam and upped the bid by 50 quid.
By god did they give me some dirty looks
Proved to be a good van for about three years until things went wrong one after another so they chopped it in for a new Corsa Combo
Luckily when that was on its last legs in 2003 the Connect had just been released - and I've been driving them ever since - never been to another car auction.

I was after a new rectifier for a MIG set; the only one on Ebay was in the States, the seller wanted £9 for it - and £96 postage!
In the end I paid TechArc's £38...

They charge for a percentage of the final price including postage whereas they used to charge a percentage of the final price NOT including postage.

If you ever do sell Snooper make sure you get/keep receipts for postage and use the cheapest signed for method.

Sooner or later you get the scammer who says they never received the item, a quick scan of the postage receipt and send them that is all that is usually needed never to hear from them again

Good advice, I keep receipts for everything and if I send anything of value signed for and insured, not that I don't trust people you must understand

Not sure if it was a scam attempt, I sent a couple of bridles to an address in Scotland and a few days later got a message asking if they'd been posted, I sent a message back telling them delivery had been attempted at 3.15pm on Friday 26th etc and to check for a card, never heard anything else but did get good feedback

I've sent similar questions when things didn't turn up on time, but you can't be sure if you have encountered a potential scammer
