Just bid on an eBay item using two different bid snipers, both say I won !

I tried out goofbid but it looked like it wasn't working, so I went back to gixen because i needed this item, then I couldn't get logged on to goofbid to cancel it. I must have been bidding against my self but I won it £30 less than my maximum bid !

I now own a vintage Seagull outboard motor, somehow.

Assuming they've both got the same ebay ID they are both correct.

One will have got in there first with a bid. The second will have gone to place a bid, if your ID has already placed a bid at that amount it backs off but if it's got a higher amount then it ups your maximum. Even if they had different amounts and the one with the higher amount got in there second they would each only place one bid at your maximum - they don't start bidding like a live auction upping the bid every time someone else bids.

Come the end of the auction all they check is that your ID is or isn't the winning bidder - they aren't reporting that they won it for you (though the emails may be worded that way), just that the ID you've supplied them has won.

Why use bid snipers? if you're really wanting an item put in your maximum bid 5 seconds before the end.....takes all the fun out of using a sniper.

I have used a sniping programme if I'm not likely to be around at auction end. It'll wait until the last few seconds to place the bid, where if you use the eBay system it'll bid as the auction goes, thereby alerting a rival bidder to your interest.

this is true but most items I've bid on have been whilst I'm at home,I don't think I've ever had to go out when I've been really interested an item.

Its the buzz of getting yer bid in prior to it closing,I've now narrowed it down to 3.5 seconds but the awl nerves is like an alchy withdrawl.

I put my bid in when I see something I want, maximum I would pay and leave it alone no leaving it till the last second and if I don't win it look for another one. A friend of mine lists a lot of stuff on ebay and if it hasn't had any bids near what he wants for his item he pulls them 12 hours before auction end and lists them again later. He sells some high value items at times and it's funny reading the messages he gets from people saying what has happened to the item as I was going to bid on it later. Now click this link

Bid snipping should be banned by EBay. It's the sellers that pay for the service so there shouldn't be a method to win an item at the lowest price. The culture of snipping means that all the bids come at the end and there often isn't the time for all the bids to hit.
The most annoying thing I see is a bid come in during the last seconds of an auction and then the buyer taking days to pay.
eBay should just add a random amount of time that the auction will run for after the published end time. That would stop all of this.

I've not bid by hand on eBay for years, however, agree that the end date of the auction should be extended for any item that's had a bid in the last 5mins. That would stop snipes, and make it more like a real auction.

I bid at an online auction the other day that did exactly that. Lots were extended until there were no bids for a certain time period.

(I know there's scam sites similar, but this wasn't some shifty pay to bid site)

A snipe doesn't win at the lowest price, it bids more than anyone else right at the end of the auction. You win by getting the highest bid in at the last moment. The item I won was a good price for the seller.

As a bidder my only interest IS getting the lowest price, I don't care about anyone else. Who ever said business was fair ?

Let me make one thing clear. I have not problem with someone jumping on an auction at the last second with their bid.

What I have a problem with is people using thirdparty tools to automate the process. Everyone ends up doing it and it makes a mockery of the whole business.

So you've never decided to up your bid in response to being outbid? If that where the case Ebay would only allow you to ever bid once on any item.

How do work that out? MrMatt, 4 seconds to go and if you have put another bid in of £2 then the sniping bid will beat you by another £1 that means it hasn't got the item at the lowest price because no one has put a higher bid than yours except the snipe,Like I said further up last 5 seconds and your maximum bid you're willing to go,if you don't get it then tough.

The whole point of a snipe bidder is that it can beat the manual bidder by 1.5 seconds or less,by the time you have clicked on that button at 1 second to the ending time,the auction has finished.
