Yesterday late evening, Joshua (@Jelly_Sheffield ) came over to my place with my "new" welder. Now I had appreciated how big it was but I wasn't prepared for how heavy it is. Bloody lump is what it is. Anyhow I have to go see my mum today and yesterday was spent "car shopping" and you know how tiresome that can be. Anyhow Josh arrived and pulled up in my driveway. The good boy hadn't touched his phone on the journey so didn't see my message; DON'T drive up with the trailer on, so he did. I must say, he did very well to get back out without major damage to driveway OR vehicle but at the bottom we had to "unhitch and swivel" you all know the script. Off we went to the fab shop, the keys for which were in my pal's car!! Not to worry, my trusty Astra van can be used as a temporary shed, so all we had to do was get the welder into it. Now most of you know the story, four heart attacks a while back and I am not sure whether or not I should be humping great lumps of iron about but we got it sort of in, then we were stuck. So I got Joshua to get the ratchet straps out and fashion a poor mans Tirfor, I must say it worked extremely well:

Several weeks ago Fizzy and I shifted a five foot high by 3x2 foot deep 1.5 ton security safe some 23 feet from one room over a small cill and into another , then went back for it's baby cousin at a mere 300 kg ......not bad for two wrecks of semi humanity , using advice from Archimedes & a bit of knowledge about Egyptians & Stonehenge .

Perhaps now that this is almost back on the road

I should start refurbishing this and mount it on to form a forum delivery service.

Supposedly about a 1t lift up close but an 8m reach (albeit significantly reduced lifting capacity). Not sure anyone wants to pay the fuel bills though...

how strong is a chassis on a landi ? I would imagine that would put a lot of stress on it when driving as must weigh half a ton ?

That's a significant part of why I have the idea of converting my Hilux to 6x6 (at some future unspecified point).

I worked out that with an 11 tonne-metre Fassi, I could comfortably load a trailer with a machine which would max out the GTW of the combination...

But the weight of that size crane (based on a F110.1B) would consume between 61% and 83% (depending on the jib length of what I could find secondhand) of the truck's payload capacity making the trailer essential.

A modern one would be a little under ½ a ton, maybe 350-400kg, I don't know that they will have got any lighter with the passage of time though.

In light of the 2000kg payload capacity of the Sandringham (at least if it's a 139, not sure which one @sako243 has) it seems pretty comfortable to add 400kg of demountable equipment.
