I have no idea why the drill selecter switch will not move on Makita drill.

I have meticulously fitted a new field & armature. Of the 3 or 4 positions that the switch can be in, there is only one position that pemits the gear assembly to slide fully home . If I try to insert the assembly in any of the other positions it only goes in the housing about 95% of the way.

When the the gear assembly is fully home, I've tried to turn the selecter switch before closing the case up to make sure it works. When I turned the selecter it forces the assembly out of the casing.

So I close it all up and screw it down, only to find the selecter is 'stuck' in that one position in the photo. What could the problem be?

on my bosch sds i had to remove the switch then reassemble and then push the selector back on last after reassembly

yes i had to remove the lever other wise the mechanism wouldnt fully seat and the handle gear mechanism had to be aligned in a certain orientation for the function to work when handle reattached

Thanks but are you saying that to remove the lever/handle it has to be done from the inside of the casing? If that is the way, I will struggle with my Pat Genning sized hands

no it is retained by 2 clips and is carefully pulled from outside with say 2 small screwdrivers to lever off then just pushes clips back on if you had part numner should be an exploded diagram available
