I usually TIG weld aluminium and stainless, MIG weld sheet steel, and braze with the TIG as I don't have space for a cage for big oxy/acetylene bottles and little bottles are too expensive. I have had 2 200A AC/DC TIGs die, first was a 'Bester', badged and supplied by Butters, who want a blank cheque to fix it, but It did do 70-80 hours work before it stopped working. The second is a ROHR 4 in 1 ac/dc arc/tig, via unionmart on the bay, and this did 10 hours work in 17 months before it died. Any replacements would need to be transformer type, as chinese electronic LGBT components have a very short life.
I suppose I could spend a few grand on a decent AC/DC TIG, but as you can guess, I wouldn't use it enough to warrant the expense.
The other alternative for stainless is a MIG, but the Kempomat went years ago, so I will need a decent machine for this, but which one?
I will also need a machine for aluminium, both 1.2-6mm sheet and cast, could I use a MIG for that too? (last time I tried, the wire burnt back in to the handset.)
I also need to Braze T45 without affecting its strength too much, any ideas?
