I've spent all day having a huge clear-out in my workshop. Now anyone who has visited will know that I like my bench and floor space even though it's only 5mx4m total but I'm a really messy worker so a typical job for me will see every conceivable tool out on the surfaces until the work is done then clear-up for the next bit of work. This has the side-effect that a lot of random stuff gets lumped into parts trays and plastic crates just to keep the place tidy.
Well, today was clear-up day. I want to do some painting later in the week and I need the maximum amount of space for that so I've been through my workshop from one end to the other with a brutal hand just chucking out load of stuff. Old tins of stuff, boxes, tools, tool boxes, handy bits of metal/plastic/whatever it's all either in bin bags or heaped in a 1/4-ton pile of scrap in the front garden (which I'm fully confident will be totally gone by the time I come home from work tomorrow). It's taken me all day because I've literally had to go through every last individual item to make sure I'm not throwing away part of one of the three lathes I'm working on. I've even cut keyhole shapes in all of my battery chargers and hung them on screw heads on the wall to get them up off the bench.
I'm very happy now I can literally dance around a clean floor with clear work benches and fairly tidy shelves. Feels pretty good, I can definitely recommend it. There's nothing more guaranteed to put you off getting stuck in with some work than facing a tip of a workspace.
No pics though, sorry. I don't post pics of my workshop and I think that people who do are a bit bonkers unless they have it secured like fort knox. Just take it from me - it's tidy!
